The course aims at familiarizing incoming students and staff with the Greek language and culture, providing extra information about the region of Crete. It comprises ten thematic Units, two reviewing units, audio and video material, plus the links to two grammar e-companions.
Each unit conists of three components:
a) The language component (signalled with red), which focuses on everyday spoken Greek (levels A1-A2). It is based on short texts (with their explanation and most important words or phrases). Each text serves as the basis for particular remarks about vocabulary/communication and grammar/structure. The text sub-modules are completed with basic exercises to practise on the phenomena under examination. At the end of each Unit you can find a key to the exercises.
b) The cultural component (signalled with green), which focuses on attitudes, beliefs and practices of the Greek/Cretan population.
c) The information about the region (signalled with blue) present some data mostly regarding the island of Crete, from geography to economy, history, art and science.
The material may be used at the pre-mobility stage. You can study alone as regards the culture and the information about the region. As for the language component, it is also appropriate for self-tuition provided you use the audio-video material and the grammar companions. If you are planning to stay only for a short time, you can study the basics of the language component (Units 1-2), which will enable you to say elementary phrases in Greek. If you are planning a long-term stay, you can prepare studying some Units and then attend the in-person language and culture course, which is based on the same material. A TASTE OF FINNISH CULTURE AND LANGUAGE COURSE
This is a premobility course offered by the INGENIUM European University alliance and South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk).
If you are coming to Finland and Xamk for the staff or student mobility, this course will provide you with useful information about Finnish society, everyday life, and the Finnish language.
You can progress through the course according to your interests: either in order or by choosing the units and activities that interest you the most. Once you have opened all the assignments or marked them as completed, you can download a certificate in the unit 10.

The course is divided into 10 short, clear lessons.

This module is designed for students and staff who are curious about the Romanian language – whether you are preparing for a mobility programme at “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iași or simply want to start learning Romanian on your own. The course is an introduction to Romanian as a foreign language, organised in 8 units covering elements from A0 to A2 levels with elements of the B1 level.
Each unit is structured to take around 1 hour – 1 hour and a half of study and includes:
· A video lesson to guide you step by step – between 30 and 40 minutes;
· A Vocabulary sheet to help you learn the key words and expressions; you will find it helpful to have this document handy when starting the practical activities;
· A Worksheet to practice and apply both vocabulary and grammar (audio exercises are also included), with
· An Answer Key;
· A Self-assessment quiz available via Google Form, with a link and QR code included in each “UNIT Contents” section – your results come automatically immediately after submission, along with the correct answers.
No prior knowledge of Romanian is required.
Each unit starts from the very basics and also introduces cultural elements to give you a ‘taste’ of Romanian life and help you understand a few specific Romanian cultural elements. By the end of this module, you should be able to pronounce Romanian correctly, greet people and introduce yourself, ask and answer basic everyday questions, recognise and – hopefully – use elementary vocabulary such as numbers, food, school places, transportation, clothes, time expressions, and city navigation, as well as use some common verbs in the present, future, conditional and past tense.
